Texas Parks Part 2

South Llano River State Park
I left Waco and headed southwest to another Texas state park. I was able to get out and do some mountain biking on the 22 miles of trails. There was also river access that Spike enjoyed. I started to notice the land becoming more desert-like with cacti, sand, short trees, and armadillos.
San Pedro Campground
With the goal of making into Big Bend National Park, I continued southwest into the city of Del Rio. It's a border town that hosts the Amistad National Recreation Area. Amistad NRA is around a man-made reservoir on the Rio Grande River, built in the late 1960s for water supply, conservation, and recreation. There are 3 different campgrounds that you can stay at for a whopping $6 a night. It's dry camping, but with the amount of sun it was pretty easy to keep the batteries charged. A short drive down the road you could get to a boat launch with public water access, so I ended up taking the dogs there quite a few times.
Alpine
I continued west on route 90, and noticed the mountains starting to grow in the distance. I stayed at a rest area Saturday, and spent most of the day Sunday looking for a place to stay. I found a site in Alpine, which was the closest town to Big Bend I could get into for the week. I found out that spring break was the busiest week to be in Big Bend, and all the places I called had no vacancy including the campgrounds inside the park, the dispersed campsites, all the RV parks within an hour of the park.
